Banks of Lough Gowna

Here’s a flute version of “Banks of Lough Gowna.”

I use thesession.org a lot to see what other recordings are out there of a particular tune. The site isn’t always 100% accurate (some tunes are mis-named on recordings or you may find a different setting on some albums), but it’s good for tracking down albums to start with. The version on Marcas O’Murchu’s Turas Ceoil is very nice (Marcas is a brilliant flute player!). I would be the version by Seamus Tansey is a good flute source as well.

Silver Spear

Whistle version of this popular session tune. This reel also has been recorded a number of times–see thesession.org’s entry for the tune.

Miss McLeod’s

Here’s a version of Miss McLeod’s, a pretty common reel in G Major. I’ve heard a fantastic version by fiddler Michael Coleman recorded back in the ’20s. It’s probably available somewhere online–I’ll check around and try to post the link if I find it.
